South Africa: Eskom posts $1.3bn loss with demand forecast to stay low

National utility Eskom posted a net loss after tax of ZAR18.9bn ($1.3bn) in its 2021 annual report, published on 31 August. The loss is a slight reduction on the previous year, when the utility posted a ZAR20.8bn deficit, and was exacerbated by a 6.7% fall in sales volumes, largely as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
