National Oil Corporation engineers on 29 October sealed a large oil leak from Harouge Oil Operations’ Al-Farigh field, 60km west of the Gialo Oasis. In a statement on its website, NOC said that abnormal pressure had caused a pipeline to burst. It said it was “aware of the difficult situation in many other fields which have faced long-term closure of their operations as well as repeated unjustified sit-ins”. NOC added that “the result has been unplanned stoppages of operations and intermittent restarts which have affected the safety of operations and cost the country huge sums”.
