State-owned Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has appointed Denmark-based Niras Group as the consultant for a new offshore oil terminal in Mombasa, which will replace the 50-year-old Kipevu terminal. The existing terminal has only one berth, accommodating carriers up to 100,000dwt, while the new facility will be able to accommodate four ships of 150,000dwt. Niras conducted a first relocation study in 2012 and, with KPA, it was agreed that the new terminal should be placed off the existing port. The consultant will design the new terminal, prepare tender documents and handle construction supervision.
