Agence Française de Développement (AFD) signed a R1.5bn (€90m) loan agreement with Eskom on 13 December to support a grid project on the west coast. The loan is the first tranche of a €400m multi-tranche facility signed in March 2017. The first tranche will finance construction of the Namaqualand Strengthening Phase II: Juno Gromis Project, which will see construction of a 282km, 400kV transmission line connecting the Juno substation in the Western Cape to the Gromis substation in the Northern Cape.
