Senegal: Renewables help inland areas overcome legacy of isolation

An accelerated programme of solar and wind schemes will allow Senegal to bring development to its marginalised inland populations, special adviser to the president for energy and environment Boubacar Mbodj told the Africa Energy Forum in Mauritius on 22 June. “We inherited infrastructure from colonisation that was concentrated on the coast, but we are now rectifying this historic anomaly with solar and other projects… The north-western [Taiba N’Diaye] wind project is being launched in that spirit,” the former Ministry of Energy official said.
