The US and Nigerian governments signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Abuja on 24 July under the banner of the Power Africa initiative. Two further MoUs were signed with the US’ Global Edison Corporation (GEC) to develop energy projects in Nigeria, but despite claims by the company that the projects formed part of the Power Africa initiative, a US government official in Nigeria told African Energy that they only found out about the additional agreements on the day of the signing.
