Voltalia Nkhotakota Solar PV

The 40MWac Nkhotakota solar PV plant in Malawi is on track to reach financial close late this year or early next year, in time to start operating in Q4 2022, Voltalia business development manager Márcio Matos told African Energy Live Data. The project has been relocated to Nkhotakota from Kanengo and land arrangements are being finalised. The plant was awarded to Voltalia by the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) in June 2017. Matos told African Energy that development of the project had been affected by Covid-19-related restrictions, which prevented technical personnel from travelling and delayed the completion of studies, now expected in Q3. New Covid-19 restrictions could result in further delay, however.
