United Kingdom-based developer Globeleq has signed a joint development agreement (JDA) with the Togolese government to develop a renewable energy project in the country on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis. The agreement was signed on 5 December 2019 in Lomé. The plant is part of the country’s National Development Plan 2018-2022.
The project will have capacity between 24MW and 30MW and could be a hydropower plant, a solar-hydroelectric hybrid, or a solar power plant with battery storage. It will be located between Kara and Dapaong depending on the technology chose and will connect to the Kara-Mango-Dapaong transmission line which is currently under construction.
Togo mines and energy minister Dèdèriwè Ably-Bidamon said that “Togo is resolutely committed to the promotion of renewable energies to ensure its energy independence and guarantee the low prices necessary for the industrial and job-creating policy desired by the President of the Republic [Faure Gnassingbé]”.
