Africa’s liquid fuel power plants and generation trends map

Africa's largest liquid fuel power plants map
Issue 475
30 December 2022

Published December 2022, this map shows Africa's largest (500MW-plus) liquid fuel power projects and plants that are operating, under construction or planned. It is presented with a chart - drawing on figures from African Energy Live Data –  that illustrates the trend of installed and pipeline on-grid liquid-fuelled capacity by region (2010-27) alongside the growth of on-grid renewable energy capacity.

Plant and project locations are marked and named alongside other significant oil producing sites and infrastructure including actual and proposed pipelines.

The maps includes a list of liquid fuel plants that are set to be decommissioned over 2022-27 and a list of liquid fuel plants planned and under construction 2022-23.

Liquid fuel plants include crude oil, diesel, HFO, LFO, liquid gases, shale oil and other fuels but exclude dual fuel plants running on natural gas and liquid fuels.

The map is presented as a PDF file using eps graphics, meaning that there is no loss of resolution as the file is enlarged.
