Eskom on 6 July signed a $1.5bn loan agreement with China Development Bank (CDB) at a ceremony in Johannesburg. The facility will form part of the financing of the 4,764MW Medupi power plant, where two units are in commercial production. The R145bn ($11bn) facility, which has been under construction since August 2007, is expected to reach full commercial production during the current financial year. In October 2016, Eskom and the CDB signed an inaugural $500m credit facility agreement to fund the parastatal’s capital expenditure programme.
