Issue 438 leads with Algeria's push into renewable power.

Power sector highlights include a feature on Egypt, where progress on renewable projects may help alleviate fears about coming delays in the sector as low prices threaten subsidised state-owned thermal power.

Power coverage also includes a focus on Guinea, where the Souapiti hydropower plant is now online but transmission bottlenecks mean EdG is stuck making costly payments to Chinese contractors while unable to sell the power.

African Energy also focuses on Malawi, where three solar IPPs are set to be commissioned this year and new battery and wind projects are planned.

Oil and gas coverage includes features on Gabon, which faced with a slow decline in output is offering improved terms to upstream investors, and Kenya, which is looking again at longstanding opportunities to import gas from Tanzania.

The African Energy View looks at power sector reform in South Africa, with insights from African Energy's new South Africa power report.
