Amea Power secures SoftBank funding

Amea Power has secured a $75m equity funding round from SoftBank Group Corporation (SBG). The Dubai-based developer said the Japanese investor’s financing represented its “first external equity funding following years of being privately funded by its founding shareholders, the [Kuwaiti] Al-Nowais family.”

Finland’s AW-Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Namibia’s Kaoko Green Energy Solutions to launch a pilot project to test the potential for harnessing wave energy along the Swakopmund coast. Kaoko’s flagship project is the Purros Hydrogen Hub (PHH), which includes plans for the production of 35 t/yr of ammonia as a green hydrogen (GH2) carrier.

Its wealth of renewable energy resources, availability of land and proximity to markets mean Africa holds the key to Europe’s vision of a net zero future based on green hydrogen (GH2) use. The manufacture of carbon-free liquid fuels could also transform the continent, but project sponsors, financers and offtakers need to ensure this is done fairly, while contributing to economic and social development. The establishment of the European Hydrogen Bank can be a crucial step in that direction.

London AIM-listed Helium One Global has entered an agreement with Australian Securities Exchange (ASX)-listed Noble Helium “to co-operate in sourcing and securing a suitable drilling rig” for drilling operations in the Rukwa Basin.  Helium One said its Rukwa project is the “largest known primary helium resource in the world”.
