As the programme director at RMI, Suleiman spearheads strategic initiatives to shift away from traditional, polluting energy infrastructure towards sustainable alternatives. With a focus on holistic energy planning, clean energy portfolios, distributed energy resources (DERs), and demand-side interventions, Suleiman is at the forefront of enabling local economic development through productive energy use and leading the implementation of the largest portfolio of interconnected mini grids, embedded generation and commercial and industrial (C&I) business models in Nigeria.
Suleiman has over 14 years of experience in developing strategies for clean energy infrastructure and investment. In his previous role, he led the Solar Power Naija programme at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in Nigeria and the Energizing Economies Initiative. He was one of the pioneers in the design and implementation of the $550m Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP), funded by the world bank and AfDB.
