Frederick Nyang

Frederick has nearly four decades of experience in the energy sector, primarily in Kenya and East Africa. His career began in 2000 with the Electricity Regulatory Board (ERB) in Kenya, where he started as a power economist and rose to director level at the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

A certified energy regulation specialist, he has made significant contributions to energy policy and electricity market development across Kenya, the East African Community (EAC), and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) region.

Frederick led the team that formulated Kenya’s foundational energy policy in 2004 and actively participated in initiatives to harmonise energy policies across Comesa and the EAC. He has been involved with the African Forum for Utility Regulation (Afur) and Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and chaired the Comesa energy regulation body, for eight years, earning regional recognition for his significant contributions.

Frederick is familiar with continental energy strategies, having represented both the ERB and EPRA within the Afur executive committee. More recently, he served as team leader for the African Single Electricity Market (AfSEM) project. He has lectured on economics at the university level and has undertaken consulting work in the power sub-sector.
