Francophone West Africa’s recent crop of military leaders are all promising ‘transition’, to include elections by end-2024. In Guinea, the increasingly isolated Colonel Mamady Doumbouya launched a national dialogue in early December, starting a promised 24-month transition.
How far each of these political processes go is questionable: none of the juntas look particularly secure, but neither do their leaders seem keen on handing over power.
