14 Oct 2020 | 1 minute read

Kenya Electricity Generating Company is seeking a consultant to support the upgrade of Olkaria IV units I and II and Olkaria I units IV and V. The consultant will prepare documentation for the procurement of an original equipment manufacturer as well evaluate proposals, supervise construction, and manage contracts, and oversee knowledge transfer. Submissions are due by 19 November 2020. The contract is being funded by Germany’s KfW.

The upgrades will see a contractor design, supply and deliver one new turbine each for Olkaria I and Olkaria IV and upgrade the steam system to increase inlet pressure to allow higher power output.

At the Baringo-Silali geothermal project in Baringo County, the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) has started moving its Kifaru 2 rig to the Korosi 2 well site. The move is expected to take 45 days. The Kifaru 1 rig, which is currently at the Korosi 1 well site, has finished drilling three exploration wells at the Paka prospect. Baringo-Silali is believed to have potential of around 3GW and GDC intends to develop the project in phases. The first phase will see 100MW power plants installed at Paka, Korosi, and Silali.
