Big guns dominate bid round

Issue 265 - 07 Nov 2013 | 4 minute read

The latest round of renewable energy independent power producer procurement (REIPPP) programme boasts an impressive reduction in the price of power and the largest number of bids submitted to date. A total of 93 power projects were submitted, representing a combined capacity of 6,023MW. Seventeen have been selected so far, with total capacity of 1,473MW and an estimated value of R44bn ($4.3bn). The 29 October announcement said further projects may be selected by 20 November due to the high number of “very competitive” bids. Eighteen bidders were sent letters of non-appointment due to non-compliance with qualification criteria.
