African Energy Live Data

Power project monitoring and data service African Energy Live Data is pleased to give an update on new features that will be added to the platform over the next 12 months. Live Data currently tracks more than 6,700 power projects across Africa, with more added every day.

In the coming months a notification system will allow users to track projects by country and fuel type. Users will be able to choose to receive notifications, either on the platform or by email, whenever new projects are added or information is updated. Emails will be able to be received instantly, daily, or weekly, depending on preference.

Live Data is also working to introduce combined organisation and power plant searches. This would allow subscribers to identify developers, financial investors, lenders, insurers, utilities and offtakers in any given market or market category, such as off-grid solar power in East Africa. This will require an upgrade of the map interface to provide an even more powerful search function.

Live Data has also been working with an industry leading technical partner on a long-term project to incorporate modelling and scenario building capabilities to the platform. This would also see the Live Data database used for large-scale energy sector modelling of countries and whole regions, including the impact of interconnections and the introduction of new technologies. We are looking to put together a group of interested parties for a pilot study, if you may be interested please get in touch with business development manager Alex Wark (contact details below).

We haven’t forgotten the little things. Live Data is also continuously improving its existing platform with minor tweaks and alterations. On the horizon are colour coded map pins for the entity map to show the relationship between the entity and the project, as well as the addition of pin popups on the company page maps so users can more easily see which pin refers to which project. The database will also introduce fields for design electricity production and for dam storage capacity, to improve ease of use for modelling and for calculating anticipated load factors.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know what you would like to see from us to best help your business move forwards by contacting business development manager Alex Wark ([email protected]) and editor Dan Marks ([email protected]).
