The Infrastructure Development Bank of Zimbabwe is requesting expressions of interest from consultants to carry out feasibility studies and environmental and social impact assessments for the 50MW Rufaro solar project and the 2.4MW Odzani hydropower project.

The Rufaro solar project, incorporated as Rufaro Solar Farm One Ltd, is an independent power producer located on a 300ha site at Longlands farm in Marondera, Mashonaland East province. The first phase of the project will occupy a 100ha site and is expected to cost $71m. The feasibility study will cover preliminary technical design, look at the legal and regulatory environment, undertake a detailed economic, financial and social analysis, risk analysis, gender analysis and institutional analysis. Work is expected to take six months to complete.

The Odzani hydropower project is located near the Odzani River in Mutasa district, Manicaland province, and is being developed by the Eastern Hydro and Electricity Supply Company Ltd. The plant, which will be designed with the possibility of expansion to 3.6MW, is on the site of an older facility decommissioned in the 1950s and work will include rehabilitation of the existing weirs, penstocks, canals and construction of a powerhouse. The feasibility study will cover the same subjects as the Rufaro study, as well as looking at demand and supply dynamics in the Zimbabwean power sector, global energy trends, and analysis of hydrology, water flows, and rock mechanics.

Submissions for both tenders are due by 22 October. Contact: Procurement Secretariat, IDBZ House, 99 Rotten Row Road, PO Box 1720, Harare, Zimbabwe. Tel: +263 242 750171/8. Email: [email protected].
