South Africa: Nordex to supply two wind projects

12 Sep 2018

Nordex Group announced on 12 September that it will supply 80 AW125/3150 wind turbines to Enel Green Power’s 138MW Garob and Elawan’s 102MW Copperton projects. 46 turbines are being supplied to Garob and 34 to Copperton. The contract includes delivery and installation as well as service contracts. Nordex intends to manufacture the 100 metre high concrete towers within South Africa to help reach local content requirements.

Nordex chief sales officer Patxi Landa said, “South Africa is an important market for us, which is why we are pleased to be executing these two orders. We have been awarded turbine supply for a total of around 400MW in 2018”.

Enel closed five projects – Nxuba, Oyster Bay, Garob, Karusa, and Soetwater – in a single transaction worth €1.2bn with Absa and NedBank Ltd last month. Construction on Garob is expected to begin in H1 2019, coming online in H2 2021.
