Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency (REA) is inviting companies to prequalify to install solar hybrid systems at seven universities and two teaching hospitals with combined capacity of around 38MW. The tender is being funded through the World Bank Group-backed Energising Education Programme Phase II and Nigeria Electrification Project.
The tender will invite bids in seven lots. Lot 1 covers the universities of Abuja, where the REA is proposing a 3MW system. Lot 2 covers Michal Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (2.5MW). Lot 3 is for University of Calabar and its teaching hospital (8MW). Lot 4 covers the University of Maiduguri and its teaching hospital (12MW). Lot 5 is for the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (3MW). Lot 6 is for the Federal University of Gashua (2.5MW). Lot 7 is for the Nigeria Defense Academy (3MW). All projects will also include diesel generators and battery storage.
The contracts will be for engineering, procurement and construction and a period of operations and maintenance which has not yet been determined. A request for proposals is expected in January 2021. Submissions are due by 25 November.
