Ethiopian Electric Power has released information for companies interested in providing drilling services for the Aluto geothermal plant. A full tender will be released in January or February 2018 for the project, which is part of the country’s World Bank funded Geothermal Sector Development Project. The contractor will drill eight vertical or directional geothermal wells to a depth of around 2,750 metres with the option, depending on initial results, of drilling a further 12. Studies conducted in 2014-16 suggest that there is potential to generate up to 45MW and a field development plan for 35MW has been drawn up. A 7.3MW demonstration project has operated at the site since 1999. Contact: Fikru W/Mariam, project manager. Email: [email protected]. Riccardo Balsotti, engineer’s project manager.
