Green hydrogen and other types of technologically ambitious schemes have been cropping up like mushrooms all over the African continent. But until commercially viable offtake can be assured, most of these projects will remain on the drawing board.
Even if they don’t advance in the near term, for instance because of the limits on commercialising electrolyser or long-distance HVDC technologies, these schemes have already performed a vital service. They have exposed the latent value in Africa’s new energy resources and opened the next era of energy development across the continent.
In this webinar, African Energy presents its findings on the vast scale of what has been proposed and compares it to achievements in renewable power to date. In assessing the areas of greatest opportunity, the discussion asks where the energy offtake could come from and how governments and adapting their plans for economic development.
