Issue 474 - 09 Dec 2022

The issue leads with a focus on Algeria, where despite a recent series of supply deals and co-operation agreements that may help meet surging gas demand in Europe, some things are not changing as quickly at state company Sonatrach as the positive headlines suggest.

There is also a closer look at the Republic of Congo, where the state-run SNPC is looking to arrest the decline in its maturing crude oil acreage and build up its natural gas resources.

Power coverage leads with an examination of the trajectory of Africa's gas-to-power (GTP) industry, with an analysis of the project pipeline by African Energy Live Data and a new Africa GTP map.

African Energy also looks at Libya, where Gecol has pushed through a massive round of maintenance at eight of its gas-fired power plants, and reports on a new Nigerian parliamentary probe into the ground-breaking power purchase agreement signed by independent power producer Azura Power in 2013.

Upstream coverage leads with a focus on Equatorial Guinea, including a revised map, and includes a look at São Tomé e Príncipe, which recently experienced a failed coup attempt.

Midstream and downstream coverage includes an update on the proposed Nigeria-Morocco pipeline.

African Energy also examines plans to pilot ‘super-green’ hydrogen technology at gas flaring sites in Egypt.

The African Energy view looks at the potential impact of transmission modelling on electricity finance risk.
