African Energy, Issue 463 cover
Issue 463 - 27 Jun 2022

The issue leads with a series of articles on South Africa, examining progress with the country's Just Energy Transition Partnership, IPP procurement and transmission pressures. A revised South Africa power map is included.

The issue also takes a look at how African developers are struggling to match carbon
credit supply with demand.

Power coverage includes a feature on Zimbabwe where a string of large thermal energy projects are facing difficulties, as international investors continue to withdraw from coal projects, and inflation and currency risk have deterred the long-term, low-interest financing required to meet renewable energy ambitions.

Oil and gas coverage includes a look at Angola, where TotalEnergies is pushing ahead with its Clov 3 oil development, and news from South Africa, where Kinetiko Energy has successfully flowed gas from its three Korhaan projects wells.

Downstream coverage leads with Egypt, where major strides have been taken towards Cairo's long-stated objective of establishing Egypt as the physical centre of the eastern Mediterranean gas trade. There is also a focus on Nigeria, where the government is looking to fast-track the Trans- Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) to Algeria and the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline (NMGP).

The African Energy view examines a revival of investor interest in large hydropower projects.
