US looks for African alternatives to MidEast oil

Crisis in the Middle East has added impetus to American efforts to secure an oil supply the US can control. Along with a new enthusiasm for drilling in the Alaskan wilderness there is a new interest in African oil to replace supplies from the Gulf, writes Thalia Griffiths.
