Issue 319 - 10 Mar 2016 | 1 minute read

The Ministry of Energy and Mines formally awarded the UK’s Edenville Energy a mining licence on 2 March for its coal resource at Mkomolo, located within the Rukwa deposit. Edenville said the next step would be to sign a framework agreement setting out the milestones to be achieved before a power purchase agreement can be signed with the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco).Development work must begin within three months of granting the licence and regular production within 18 months. Mkomolo has a measured resource of 13.4m tonnes of coal and is likely to be developed rapidly as a low-cost open-pit mine.
