South Africa: Construction starts at Nxuba wind farm

Construction is underway at the 140MW Nxuba wind farm in Amatole district in South Africa Eastern Cape, Enel Green Power RSA announced on 12 February. The plant is scheduled to begin operating by September 2020, after which it will generate around 460GWh/yr. Nxuba was one of five wind projects majority owned by Italy’s Enel Group which were selected in the fourth round of the country’s renewable energy independent power producer procurement programme. The other four projects, which are all 140MW, are the Oyster Bay in Eastern Cape, and Garob, Karusa, and Soetwater in the Northern Cape.

Nxuba is owned by Enel Green Power RSA, Pele Green Energy Ltd, Nxuba Wind Farm Community Trust, and Request Renewables.
