Associated gas from the field is being piped to a 6MW power plant, supplying the project and the local community, with the surplus sold to the grid. Akinyanmi said the power plant was a key element in fostering positive relations with the local community: “If our operations go down, the lights will go out. It’s a very direct correlation, it makes everybody aware.” With operator Optimum Petroleum, Lekoil plans appraisal of 2013’s basin-opening Ogo discovery on OPL 310; Lekoil increased its holding there to 40% by buying technical operator Afren’s stake in December 2015.
