With a final investment decision on the Kudu gas project’s upstream development expected in mid-2014, offtaker NamPower is pushing to conclude gas sales agreements by June and reach financial close by December to allow construction to start on the power plant, managing director Paulinus Shilamba said on 11 March. Completion by 2018 of the Kudu combined-cycle gas turbine plant is now a “national priority project”, Shilamba said – essential for Namibia to overcome its rising electricity supply deficit. Peak demand has reached 534MW, following a period of average 4%/yr demand growth; peak generating capacity is currently 508MW.
