Tullow Oil has announced an oil discovery with the Emkuya-1 well on Block 13T in the northern part of the South Lokichar Basin, helping to derisk the Greater Etom structure. The well was drilled 2.5km north of Etom-2, targeting a fault block on the flank of the structure. The well was drilled to 1,356 metres and penetrated reservoir quality Miocene sandstones which correlate to those seen in Etom-2. Tullow said downhole pressure measurements and fluid samples also suggested the same static pressure gradient as Etom-2, indicating that a major part of the Greater Etom structure is oil filled.
