Kenya: Great Wall signs drilling contract with GDC

Issue 332 - 18 Oct 2016 | 1 minute read

China’s Great Wall Drilling Company Ltd has signed a contract with Kenya’s Geothermal Development Company (GDC) to drill 16 directional wells at the Menengai geothermal prospect, GDC has announced. Directional drilling is intended to complement the vertical drilling under way at the site, saving money by allowing more wells to be drilled from a single well pad. GDC managing director and chief executive Johnson Ole Nchoe said: “We need to fast-track this assignment and I am confident that [Great Wall] will execute fast.” Great Wall drilled a number of wells at Olkaria in 2009 and 2010.
