China CAMC Engineering Company (CAMCE) has begun construction of the 240km, 220kV Garsen-Hola-Garissa single-circuit transmission line at Garsen in south-east Kenya. A launch ceremony for the project was held on 25 November and work got under way at year-end. The project is financed by the Export-Import Bank of China and the government of Kenya and will cost around $44.9m, according to an environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) submitted to the National Environmental Management Authority on behalf of Ketraco by local consultants Log Associates.
