African Energy has assessed the state of the African power industry at the end of 2022 and the future direction of the sector.
In two clips below taken from our recent Africa’s power generation sector - performance and trends webinar, head of data Ajay Ubhi examines the perfomance of the renewable energy sector in 2022 and looks ahead to examine the pipeline of announced projects that are scheduled to come online between 2023 and 2027.
The first clip compares the renewable energy projects that were expected to come online in 2022 (based on previously announced expected commissioning dates) compared to what actually did come online.
This second clip assesses the current pipeline of announced power generation projects scheduled to come online over the 2023-27 period.
The figures do not include new power generation connected to announced green hydrogen projects.
Earlier this year African Energy assessed announced green hydrogen projects and found that the renewable energy needed to realise these GH2 schemes would require the continent’s existing generation capacity to be more than doubled.
