Gas and LNG options for C&I offtakers

Background:

Gas-to-power (GTP) is an increasingly preferred option for many large C&I offtakers – including those for whom grid supply is unreliable or insufficient. These include offtakers such as miners, cement manufacturers and smelters.

Developers are also starting to look at hybridising extant thermal plants, using GTP capacity to underpin the addition of renewable C&I plants. GTP C&I plants are increasingly paired with renewable capacity, with storage starting to play a role in the mix, too.

LNG-to-power developments are also an increasingly viable option, with remote or off-grid locations supplied via ‘virtual’ LNG pipelines using road or even rail. Offtakers include miners energy-intensive industries, such as smelters and cement manufacturers.
