Subscription formats

Email

Subscribers receive each issue of Africa Energy emailed in PDF format as soon as it is published. As well as ensuring prompt delivery – three to seven days ahead of a printed copy – the emailed PDF version includes full-colour versions of the black and white maps found in the printed version.

Print

Subscribers receive the printed edition of each issue of African Energy by mail. Content is extensively back referenced to relevant articles previously published in African Energy. This ensures that your African Energy copies grow over-time to become a valuable library resource (NB. The PDF version also includes this level of referencing).

Internet

Internet subscribers have the advantage of 24/7 access to African Energy’s online resources and also receive each issue of African Energy emailed in PDF format as soon as it is published.  In addition to a search engine, issue index and PDF download index – every issue since August 1999 – Internet subscribers have access to additional resources including an energy map library, featuring full colour versions of maps originally printed within African Energy, and a reference library, including government documents, and reports from NGOs and multilateral organisations.

Multi-user subscriptions

Multi-user subscriptions are by far the most cost effective way for a corporation or organisation to subscribe to African Energy and ensure that all relevant staff have access to a regular flow of high quality news and analysis of the African energy scene.

African Energy can tailor a multi-user package consisting of a mixture of subscription formats at highly discounted prices. Such packages may range from additional heavily discounted printed copies of African Energy or multiple email recipients to full package Internet licences. Details of Internet licences and a special academic/NGO subscription may be found below.

To get the best value out of your multi-user subscription please contact Nick Carn, Publications Director. Email: nick@cbi-publishing.com. Tel: +44 (0) 1424 721667.

Internet licences

A licence provides corporate/organisation-wide access to the full range of African Energy’s online resources, and permission to distribute the PDF version of African Energy internally. Additionally, each new PDF issue of African Energy will be sent directly to nominated staff email addresses.

The licence includes access to the following online features:

  • Archive search engine

  • Issue index: Allows you to view past issues online

  • PDF downloads: Every issue dating back to August 1999 (issue 17)

  • African Energy map library: the high-resolution electronic versions of our energy maps published in full colour in African Energy since November 2006.

  • Reference Library: Including government documents and reports from NGOs and multilateral organisations.

Access

Internet licence archive access is granted through corporate/organisation gateway IP addresses and a single user-name and password. This means all staff at the subscribing company or organisation can access African Energy’s online resources.

Pricing rationale

We provide Internet licences based on the number of staff who are likely to want access to our archives (rather than total number of staff in a company or organisation).

Price examples:

Based on 10 users: £1,900.00/year

Based on 25 users: £2,750.00/year

Based on 50 users: £3,750.00/year

Based on 100 users: £5,250.00/year

Prices are indicative and subject to VAT at the prevailing rate.

For small teams of up to five users, we recommend a standard Internet subscription, with additional sets of log-in details available at £95.00/$190.00 per additional user.

Please contact us for a full quote.

Please see our Internet license terms below.

Academic/NGO package

We have created a special subscription package that allows academic institutions and NGOs to subscribe to African Energy and receive all the benefits of an Internet licence at a fraction of the cost. The package includes institution-wide access to African Energy’s archives and other online resources, the PDF version of African Energy emailed to nominated staff email addresses and a printed copy of each new issue. Price (subject to VAT at the prevailing rate): £695.00/$1,390.00. To apply, please contact Nick Carn on the details below.

Internet licence terms and conditions

Internet licences for Cross-border Information (CbI – the publisher) publications (namely, African Energy and Gulf States Newsletter) are provided on the understanding of the following terms:

  • The minimum term of a licence is 12-months.

  • Once ordered a licence is non-refundable.

  • The licence covers all internal staff of the licence holder (the company, institution or organisation purchasing the Internet licence from CbI). It does not, however, extend to the staff of sub-contractors or partner companies working with the licence-holder.

  • The licence holder has the right to distribute PDFs and resources to any member of staff working within the departments covered by the licence.

  • The licence holder has the right to nominate staff email addresses to receive PDF versions of the applicable CbI publication as soon as they are published.

  • The licence holder and its staff are not allowed to share CbI’s publication resources with individuals, companies, organisations or any other external body without prior written permission from the publisher. Such action will be deemed a breach of copyright and dealt with accordingly.

  • Access to CbI publication archives is usually provided through the main IP address(es) of the licence holder and a single-user name and password.

  • The licence fee is calculated on the number of anticipated users of a CbI publication’s Internet resources not on total staff numbers of the licence applicant.

  • The licence holder is responsible for informing the publisher of any change in IP addresses, email addresses or any other information necessary for the publisher to fulfil the terms of the subscription.

  • An Internet subscription is sold on a fair-usage basis – while we encourage people to use and download resources from our archives we do monitor usage and do not permit subscribers to simply copy vast chunks of our archives onto their local intranet. Attempts to do so may result in termination of the subscription(s) in question.

  • In order to receive PDF files by email the subscriber must have a minimum of 2 megabytes (Mb) of available mailbox space.
