Egypt: New feed-in tariff for solar PV developers

After a first round of projects under Egypt’s renewable feed-in tariff (FiT) programme ran into problems earlier this year, electricity and renewable energy minister Mohammed Shaker has proposed revised feed-in tariffs at levels that are just on the edge of the price sought by developers deciding whether to migrate projects from the first to the second phase. Those who decide to go ahead will have to rework the fundamentals of their projects and also accept a level of Egyptian exchange rate risk.
